Team Leigh Boxing's Eleven year old Kian Flanagan has won the 2014 National Schoolboys Minors Title. The unbeaten youngster who turned in impressive performances in every round of the championships, beat Guildford City's David Tierney in the Final in Walkden, Manchester. It was heartbreak though for Team Leigh's two other National Finalists, with eleven year old Coan Gildart losing by split decision in Walkden, and thirteen year old Josh Waterworth controversially losing by split decision in Huddersfield. A successful Championships though, with seven boxers making the National Semi Finals.
Team Leigh Boxing are inviting all local people (male & female) between the ages of 7yrs and 40yrs to come along to Leigh Boxing & Fitness Gym to see if they have the potential to follow in the footsteps of Leigh ABC boxers who have won over 100 Regional and National Engand Boxing titles, represented England and gone on to make their mark in the Professional ranks. Leigh ABC's Marcus Morrison has been crowned the NACYP National Welterweight Champion for 2010. In a devastating display of speed and power, Marcus beat Repton ABC star boxer Ben Hall 16-9 in Portsmouth on saturday afternoon. The bout could have been over in the first minute as Marcus crashed a massive right, forcing Hall to take a standing eight count, and then continually bombarded the London based boxer who was fortunate to see out the round. To Hall's credit though, he dug deep but was continually struggling to cope with the Leigh boxer's hand spped and accuracy. Heavy right hands in both the second and third round again confirmed Marcus' dominance, leaving the result beyond doubt. A fantastic win for Marcus, Leigh ABC and the town !

Police in West Leigh are encouraging young people to get in the boxing ring and off the streets.
The scheme, which takes place at Leigh Amateur Boxing Club on Scott Street in Leigh, is part of the X-Zones initiative run by Wigan Council.
This aims to get young people across the borough involved in positive activities as a way of reducing anti-social behaviour and keeping them fighting fit.
PC Andy Doran of the Leigh West Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said: “This is a fantastic way for young people to get involved in sport and learn self-discipline. Those that run the boxing club are committed to working with them and offer a fantastic service to the community. I would encourage people to come down and get involved.”
Adrian Fleming, head coach at Leigh Amateur Boxing Club, added: “We are only too happy to help get young people into sport to keep them on the right track in life, and I would encourage anyone interested to come along to one of our sessions.”
Training sessions (£1.50 for under 16s):
· Junior class for 5-13s: Monday Wednesday & Friday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm
