Leigh ABC affilliates to the National Association of Clubs for Young People ! (1st Oct 08)

Leigh ABC this week completed the the formalities of being accepted as a member of the prestigious National Association of Clubs for Young People. The club has been attached to the Lancashire Association of Clubs for Young People, and in doing so demonstrates further the club's ambition to constantly achieve the highest standards and provide nationally recognised facilities for the young people of the Leigh area.
The LACYP enables affilliated clubs to give young people a chance to try something a little different. That could be anything, including football table tennis, canoeing, abseiling, skiing, quad biking or residential weekends at Ormside Mill Residential Centre. The NACYP also holds a National Boxing tournament every year which a number of our boxers can now enter.

Olympian Joins Leigh ABC (4 March 08)

Former Olympic Boxing Team Captain and 11 time National ABA Champion George Gilbody has joined Leigh ABC in a boxing technique and advisory capacity. George took his first session with the Boxing Squad on Tuesday evening at the Boxing & Fitness Centre, giving advice on relaxation, breathing and controlling nerves alongside general footwork and ringcraft. George, who is the English record holder of 11 National Titles, will work alongside the club coaches when required and with individual boxers in preparation for contests. The knowledge that George brings will be invaluable to the continuing success of Leigh ABC.

Leigh ABC worked with three Wigan Select Cricket Squads in boxing training sessions over two evenings at Lowton High School and Robin Park. (more on the Wigan Cricket Boxing link)

Leigh ABC Club President Andy Burnham MP, dropped in at the Boxing & Fitness Center on Friday morning to watch the students from Westleigh High School put through their paces. Taking time out of his extremely busy schedule, Andy, the Chief Secretary of HM Treasury, chatted with the students, teachers and coaches.

Westleigh High School Students Learn The Ropes (16 Nov 07)

Students from Westleigh High School had their first training session at the Boxing & Fitness Center on Friday morning. Fifteen male and female year 11 students are taking part in a three month Boxing course as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. They were put through their paces by Head Coach Adrian Fleming, and all will be looking to gain Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.

The Kids Class off to a great start ! (23 Oct 07)

The Kids Boxing & Fitness Class for boys and girls aged 4 years to 8 years has proved to be very popular with the local youngsters. The classes are on Mondays starting at 4pm until 4.45pm and let the children exert some of their boundless energy on the bags and pads. The classes are non-contact and include general fitness exercises and games with the Coaches Ian and Elle.

Birchalls Newsagents of Union Street, Leigh added their support for the Boxers of Leigh this week by donating Boxing Magazines and DVD's to the club.

Acorn Print Services Join the 65 Club (1 Sept 07)

Acorn Print Services Ltd of Leigh Road, Leigh have joined the Leigh ABC 65 Club. The successful Printing business situated opposite the Avenue Pub in Leigh Town Center, have taken advantage of the £65 year long placement of a link to their business website. Acorn Print Service Dirctor Paul Hollings and youngest son Sam are also regular members of the Boxing Fitness Classes.

Deloittes link with Leigh ABC (24 Aug 07)

Giant accountancy firm Deloittes joined members of Leigh ABC this week in painting the inside and outside of the ever improving clubhouse. With 20 Deloittes volunteers enthusiastically giving up their valuable time to help Leigh ABC,the club now looks in great condition.
The guys and girls will be cheering along the lads at the next Open Boxing Show on Friday 30th November at Lowton Civic Hall.

Elliothire join the Leigh ABC club (24 Aug 07)

Elliotthire UK, the largest supplier of portable accommodation and secure storage, have supplied Leigh ABC with a 50 foot secure container. Having been of fantastic help when the club was moving from its earlier base, Leigh ABC were overwhelmed to recieve the continued support of Elliotthire. Wayne and the boys and girls of Elliotthire will again be cheering on the boys at the next show in November.
